Balancing Banter …

At my sister’s birthday dinner last night, in a magical Vietnamese restaurant, with gorgeous food, fabulous company and fairy lights…I got talking to a long time friend about this whole work life family balance thing.
He said something like, ‘ you know it’s not about achieving balance, that would be boring. Because once you reached it, if you got there, things would happen to change it all again. It’s the balancing that’s the point’. And I have to say he’s done a great job balancing life with his partner, 2 step-kids, paid work and artistic pursuits, and it hasn’t always been easy. So perhaps it’s more about the journey than the destination. I guess that’s why I like the idea of interconnectivity…it’s more about the process of making meaningful interconnections…
As I looked around the table last night, and saw my daughter, her cousins, my parents, my sisters, my partner, my sister’s partner, our friends – chatting, laughing, listening, playing - just enjoying eachother’s company - the backdrop to it all is that we have all helped eachother through some really dark, tough times – that bond – that comes from caring. Could this be what interconnectivity is all about???
